JoAnn's grocery picks

It's 15% day at Sobeys on Tuesday, 10% day at Safeway. Gear up. Plus No Frills is featuring their 1/2 price sales for another week with a few added items.

Safeway - Not my favorite place because the prices are too high, but here are some good deals and double dip on Tuesday for an additional 10% off.
sugar $7.99 Limit of 2. thanks Luella for pointing it out. Liesel, now you can stock up. $7.19 on Tuesday.
Ice cream $3.99 with discount $3.59
cheese $7.99 (750g block) with the discount is $7.19 which is equivalent to $8.37 for the big 900g block. However, if you are going out to NoFrills, they are selling Armstrong 500g blocks for $4.44. That's $7.99 for the 900g block or $6.50 for the same size as Safeway is selling. So both are good.
Imperial marg $3.49 with discount $3.14
"Basic red" apple juice 1L carton $.77 with discount $.69 Never heard of this brand, but for $.65, who cares???
cantaloupe $.59/lb with discount $.53/lb
grapes $1.69 with discount $1.44. See Sobey's flyer for an even better deal.
Boneless, skinless chicken breast, frozen - not my cup of tea but is $26.36 with discount $22.40
Also refer to Sobeys for an alternate deal. No Frills also has fresh bone in breast too.

oranges $69/lb with discount $.59 No Frills has them for $.47
pork ribs $1.97 with discount $1.69/lb Good price for expensive, mostly bone meat. I am still amazed that the market will support such high prices for so little meat. HMMM

apples $.99 with discount $.84/lb
romaine lettuce $1.29 with discount $1.10. Nothing to write home about, but if you are in need.

  1. Thanks JoAnn. Definitely some deals this week.
A note that Rancho Vingola is having a clearance sale from Mar 1-15, no minimum order. This is where Emily B gets lots of her dried fruit, nuts, etc that are good quality and often organic. Note that you will be paying a premium but this is really good stuff.

  2. Oh my!- I made a mistake. I wrote that Safeway offers 15% on their Tuesday sales. I am wrong. It's only 10%. I stand corrected. So the discounted prices I quoted are off by 5%. I will attempt to correct that. My bad.

  4. Check out www.ranchovignola.com as of March 1 (still not on today) to see what's available for dried fruits, nuts, & confections (ask Liesel about the chocolate covered nuts!!) I have ordered from them for the past 5 or so years in the fall and have always been pleased with the quality. I have only ordered occasionally (maybe once?) during their spring clearance. If anyone wants to order (wait and see what is left, sometimes not much), please let me know and we can coordinate so as to get a better price or free shipping. (For the spring clearance, there is no "minimum" order, but you get progressive discounts as your order goes over $100, $300, $500... so it pays to combine orders) If you like what you see, but it is not available now, my preferred time to order is always the fall when you get better prices and product. So get in touch with me in September!

  5. 9:30 a.m. Mar 1 My friend, Deb, is planning to order about $200 (so far) but wants to order today to make sure the things she wants are still available. The prices I'm seeing are more expensive than fall wholesale prices, but if we get over $500 combined, it's equal to or cheaper than the wholesale in fall. Call me!!
