JoAnn's grocery picks

It's 15% day at Sobeys on Tuesday, 10% day at Safeway. Gear up. Plus No Frills is featuring their 1/2 price sales for another week with a few added items.

Safeway - Not my favorite place because the prices are too high, but here are some good deals and double dip on Tuesday for an additional 10% off.
sugar $7.99 Limit of 2. thanks Luella for pointing it out. Liesel, now you can stock up. $7.19 on Tuesday.
Ice cream $3.99 with discount $3.59
cheese $7.99 (750g block) with the discount is $7.19 which is equivalent to $8.37 for the big 900g block. However, if you are going out to NoFrills, they are selling Armstrong 500g blocks for $4.44. That's $7.99 for the 900g block or $6.50 for the same size as Safeway is selling. So both are good.
Imperial marg $3.49 with discount $3.14
"Basic red" apple juice 1L carton $.77 with discount $.69 Never heard of this brand, but for $.65, who cares???
cantaloupe $.59/lb with discount $.53/lb
grapes $1.69 with discount $1.44. See Sobey's flyer for an even better deal.
Boneless, skinless chicken breast, frozen - not my cup of tea but is $26.36 with discount $22.40

oranges $69/lb with discount $.59 No Frills has them for $.47
pork ribs $1.97 with discount $1.69/lb Good price for expensive, mostly bone meat. I am still amazed that the market will support such high prices for so little meat. HMMM

apples $.99 with discount $.84/lb
romaine lettuce $1.29 with discount $1.10. Nothing to write home about, but if you are in need.

I saw an ad the other day for people to do the federal census, google it if you're interested.
There will probably ads within the next few weeks for the city census. I did this a few years ago and made at least $500, maybe closer to $1000. Good money for what you actually do.
I also took a class on pillowcase making this week. Apparently, Sew You Like to Quilt is collecting pillowcases for the Ronald McDonald House. 100% cotton only. I will hopefully be teaching a class for RS sometime. I will check the fabric from Sue, hopefully there is lots of fabric to choose from. Here is a link to the pattern if you want a headstart.

JoAnn's grocery picks

NoFrills - The flyer beginning tomorrow runs for the next 2 weeks, so you have plenty of time to take advantage of some great sales.
Oktoberfest sausages 400g $1.97. I have cooked these before. The kids really like them. They are uncooked, so take a little longer than smokies, but are good cut and put into a gravy and eaten over pasta or with mashed potatoes.

Piller's sliced ham 250g pkg $1.99. That's $.80/100
NN frozen lasgana $5.99. This has been on for a few weeks now. Good freezer meal for emergencies. Not as good as homemade, but will do in a pinch.

Saturday only - Lagostina pressure cooker $63.99, reg $159.98
I'm all over pressure cookers these days - you can seriously cook a roast in like 30 minutes or beans in 12 minutes! If you get some accessories, you could cook rice super fast too. Faster, less expensive energy costs, all good. I like the idea for days that I work. So, do your research before you buy, get a good quality one and enjoy. I got a cookbook from the library that was excellent to guide my research. Click here for the author's website.

And, last but not least, if you want some fresh produce, there will be mini farmers market this Saturday from 10-12 in the Eastview Estates Community Hall (on ellenwood I think). Carrots, potatoes, beets, etc. Not sure of prices but it's local (Innisfail). I'll be there for sure.

Happy Shopping

Superstore
Just a word of advice. If you read the flyers online instead of what comes in your mailbox, be mindful of which location you are viewing. I was too lazy to find my flyer for Superstore, so looked online. Nothing looked familiar (as I had already looked at the flyer days before). I was puzzled. Then looked up and realized that I was viewing a flyer meant for Ontario residents!! That explains it. So, double check that you are looking at a flyer meant for Red Deer.
cataloupe $1.46 ea

Imperial marg $2.99 for 1.36kg (3lb) tub or 1/4 lb squares

And that's about it. Sorry. It's a bit dull this week.
