JoAnn's Grocery Picks for the Week

Thanks Liesel for posting your picks. Here a couple more.
Sobeys
corn on the cob 6/$1.68 I got some on Saturday and it was delicious. Very tender.

Co-op
Harmonie flour $5.99. This may not seem noteworthy since it is not brand name, but just to make you aware - worldwide there is a bit of an impending wheat shortage. Russia is in a drought, there has been extensive hail in North America and wheat prices have gone up significantly. So, this is the best you are going to see for a while. However, if you have enough flour to last you through the next growing season, don't worry about it. For me, flour at $5.99 is a good buy if you need to stock up to see you through this temporary "shortage"
Delmonte juice pouches $1.99/10pouch box
NoFrills
Highliner wild salmon fillets $3.77/lb
PC chicken strips or nuggets $9.49/2kg box wow
Pillers sliced ham $1.99/250g (that's $.80/100g)
English cukes $.69
green peppers 4 pack $1.77
Wonder buns $.95/dozen
Old Dutch liquid laundry detergent 50 load jug $1.99
Maple Leaf flakes of ham, chicken or turkey $.99/can
Superstore
green or red leaf lettuce (I know you like this lettuce Luella) $.68
watermelon $3.97
Pork loin half cut into chops $1.98/lb or $4.37/kg
pogo's $8.97/box of 20
Upper crust 16" pizza 2/$14 If anyone has ever tried these pizza (they are located in the deli) let me know. I'd like to know if they are any good.
Soft and Dry antipersperant $1.00
Lypsyl lif balm $1.00

I think that's all the damage I can do for this week. Happy shopping. Next week is discount days at Sobeys, Save-on, Safeway, Nutters.

JoAnn's Grocery Picks for the Week

It seems my brain has been on vacation. So, I'm trying to get back on the wagon and post my picks for the week. Thanks Liesel for picking up the slack. However, all the posts from the past are archived, so if you have access to the week's flyers, you can always go back and compare prices to what I have posted in the past. I'm happy to help, and I hope that eventually you will all be self-sufficient in recognizing good prices for your own specific needs.

NoFrills
corn on the cob 6/$1.86 (The corn has not been that great so far this year - due to the weather, so buyer beware)
tomatoes $.77/lb
colored peppers $1.99/lb
cauliflower $1.49 each
romaine or red /green leaf lettuce $.56
peaches $.78/lb If you didn't get them last week, here is another chance. If you need help canning, call Liesel or myself. I have a canner I can lend out.
cantaloupe $.97 each
chicken breast fresh, back attached $1.97/lb or $4.37/lb
5Alive juice boxes (school's looming nearer!!) $4.49/27 $.17 each
Oatmeal crisp cereal $2.77
Clover leaf tuna $.77/can. I don't buy at this price; I like to wait for $.50/can, but it will be a generic brand, not Clover Leaf. So if brand is an issue, then this is a good buy.
PC granola bars $3.77 for the jumbo box
Nature Valley granola bars $1.69
Diana sauces $1.69
Black diamond cheese slices $2.99/ 500g pkg

Superstore
Generic mac and cheese 3/$1 (limit of 3)
generic ketchup 3/$5
peaches $.77/lb (so if driving to Sylvan is out, you can go here)
frozen chicken breast, boneless, skinless (tasteless - just my opinion) $24.52/4kg box
generic peanut butter $4.98/2kg jar
cukes $2.28/bag of 3
green peppers $.76/lb
green onions or radishes 3bunches/$1
yellow onions 3lbs/$1.68
coleslaw $1.00/pkg

I cannot recall anything noteworthy at Sobey's, Save-on, Safeway or Co-op. If anyone notices something, please fire off a note.
Thanks.
JoAnn

Mars Bars Squares

Since I know you have been stocking up on Mars bars this summer when they're on sale, here is the long awaited recipe.

4 Mars bars, cut into pieces
1/2 cup butter/marg (I would do a little less, maybe 1/3 cup?)
3 cups Rice Krispies

melt Mars and butter slowly over low heat. Once all melted, remove from heat and stir in Rice Krispies. Press into 9x9" pan and let cool. Cut into 1x1" squares (very rich, very unhealthy but very tasty)

Optional: melt 1/4 cup butter with 1 cup chocolate chips slowly over low heat or microwave for 1-2 minutes and stir well. Spread over cooled base and refridgerate to set.

JoAnn's Grocery Picks for the Week

Oops! I guess I could justify my lack of posting on the lack of good deals, but that's just lame. However, there isn't much to report this week. 15% day was a non-event, Superstore has precious little, and NoFrills has a few things, so I guess I'll just post that and hope for something more exciting for next week.
Incidentally, Jen, if you are still in the dark, NoFrills is Superstore's small town version. It only has grocery and pharmacy items. No clothing or dry goods. But their prices are great. There is one in Sylvan, Lacombe and Olds. So if you are ever interested, you can carpool or just put in your order. I usually go out there twice/month if the prices can lure me out. To make it even more enticing, the super Walmart is just down the street!! But no need 'cause NoFrills does a good job of matching their prices anyway.

NoFrills
grapes $.97/lb
watermelon $3.47 each
broccoli $.79 each
cucumbers $.79 each
chicken drumstick or thighs $1.99/lb or $4.37/kg
NN smokies 1kg pkg $4.47 (Sobey's had a demo yesterday for smokies sliced, browned and slow-cooked in apricot jam, lemon juice and dijon mustard) It was delicious. I made it today and served it over rice. It was a hit. I added chopped veggies for a complete dinner.
Diana sauces $1.69
2 Pk McCain premier pizza $6.49 that's only $3.25/pizza (deluxe and pepperoni only)
