First One

Sisters-
Welcome to your blog!
After spending the last few weeks listening closely to what you were saying about what you needed, it came to me that a blog might be useful for us to stay in contact.
Feel free to post anything that you think will help your sisters, grocery or shoe sales to parenting tips. If you need an answer, post the question.
Hopefully, using this tool we can further support and strengthen eachother. When we are stronger and more unified then we are more able to do His work in our homes, ward and communtiy.
So, happy blogging and enjoy each other.
Pam Liptak

  1. Speaking of blogs, if you don't know about Pioneer Woman, you are in for a treat. Who else but Ree could blog about cows and basset hounds and have a following in the tens of thousands? Explore her site by clicking on the tabs across the top."Confessions" is updated daily, and "Cooking" is updated nearly as often. Be sure to visit "Tasty Kitchen" (tab at the end) - an amazing resource. You will love getting to know Marlborough Man and the punks, and you'll never have to ask, "What should I cook for dinner" again. http://www.thepioneerwoman.com

  2. So Terry,
I know you are expert at these things. I see that I can comment on your posting, but how do I post my own item?

  3. I have no idea. I posted a comment to the original comment, just like you did. There must be a way to start a new thread, or maybe post photos. Maybe it has something to do with getting the password. Guess I've pretty much debunked the "expert" thing, huh? :D

  4. I don't feel so dumb then, because if you don't know, then I'm definitely not going to figure it out.
So. . . I'm going to post the grocery specials here anyway and hopefully those interested will find it.
I mentioned on Thursday that if sugar goes under $10/10kg bag, it's worth getting (in the short term). Well, low and behold, it's $8.98 at Co-op (and consequently also Superstore for a limit of 2). Remember this is a world "shortage" situation and will probably last for the next 12 months at least. So if your food storage won't outlast these current prices, now's the time to pick up a bit to get you through.
Other specials that caught my eye:
    Superstore:
Pork shoulder butt chops (great for baking in soups and sauces) $1.78/lb or $3.92/kg
    Cantaloupe $1.47 ea.
Kellogg's cereal 500 - 850g boxes $3.97 Limit of 2 (These are not the mega size, but the size smaller)
CHEESE - 907g $7.98 If you buy the large 2.5kg blocks at Costco, this would be $22.00.
Chicken - for those that missed on the fresh chicken breasts from last week and didn't get a raincheck, here are a couple of alternatives if you can't wait for the next sale. Boneless, skinless (IQF)in 4kg box $24.52. Fresh chicken thighs at Sobey's for $2/lb or $4.41/kg
    Onions $2.96/10lb bag
McCain Cresendo pizza $4.97. My favorite is the Steak and Mushroom melt.
Royale 24 double rolls $9.48. I use $.50/double roll as my max price. So this is actually a good price at $.40.
    Red or Green grapes $1.47/lb
    Celery $.97 each

    Sobey's Dollar Days
    Head Lettuce $1.00
    French bread $1.00
    Navel oranges 3/$1.00
    Imperial Marg. tub 907g $2.00
Chicken thighs $2.00/lb $4.41/kg (I mentioned this earlier when talking about chicken)

    Save-on:
    Lean ground beef - 5lb tube $1.79/lb
    Asparagus - $1.98/lb
Onions $1.28/3lb bag (of 10 lb bag at SS is to big)
Pork boneless sirloin roast $1.99/lb $4.39. (I usually do not like to pay quite this much for pork, but because it is bonless, and sirloin, it will have less fat than the steaks. Nice company roast. Also, if it is a large roast, they will cut it in half for you and re-wrap it)

  5. I guess I had far too much to say, because it cut me off. I will try to remember what I had previously typed.

No Frills. I checked out their flyer online. Their specials run for 2 weeks, so these prices will be available till March 4.
Real Canadian Water 15/$1.00 (if you buy bottled water)
Nestle ice cream 400 mL tub (just a little one) $1.00
    Cook's ham (BONE-IN) $1.00/lb $2.20/kg
    Palmolive Dish soap 473mL $1.00
Catelli Garden Pasta Sauce (jars) $1.00
Surf Fabric softener sheets 50's $1.00
Dole bagged salad or spinach $1.00

    Non-grocery stores:
Zellers - Hunt's Thick and Rich pasta sauce $1.25
Walmart - Ragu Pasta Sauce (jars) $1.25
Rexall Drugs (downtown beside Parson's Clinic) tuna $.59/can This is for those who missed IDA drugs sale last week at $.50/can

Canadian Tire - oil change (conventional oil only - not synthetic) $29.95. They sell these as "gift cards" so you can make an appointment at your convenience. So if you are a month or two from needing an oil change, you can buy the card now and use it when you are ready. They had this same sale last year, but for synthetic oil so I bought a few as stocking stuffers for my big kids and also one for myself.

If anyone else has any other shopping tips for this week, feel free to add to this. Or if you think I'm out to lunch on my prices, correct me. I'd love to find out about a better deal elsewhere.

  7. One of my favorite blogs is Nie Nie Dialogues. Stephanie Nielson and her husband were in a plane crash a little over a year ago. This youtube video tells their story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RikPeNIATc Then check out her blog at http://www.nieniedialogues.com for daily inspiration. You can go through her archives (right hand column, half way down) that go way back to 2004. Stephanie is a remarkable woman.

  11. Superstore does not have a discount day, but is giving away a $25 gift card for minimum purchase of $250, which equals 10% off. No need to shop on Tuesday if you can't and they will match any other store's flyer item (minus the extra discount for Tuesday)

Canadian Tire is running their oil change special again - $29.95 for oil, lube and filter. But it's regular oil only and does not include synthetic.
