JoAnn's Grocery Picks for the Week

Superstore - Their weekly "free" item is pretty sweet. Too bad the grocery specials don't match. Save 10-25 cents/litre on gas (depending on your grocery purchase)
Here's how it works:
minimum grocery purchase discount at the pump
$100 10 cents
$150 15 cents
$200 25 cents
This is on top of the 5 cents/litre Superbuck you receive at anytime.

There is also another "free" item. It's a folding camp chair. Free with $150 purchase. So if gas is not your thing, maybe a chair is.

Now for the grocery specials worth noting:
Watermelon $3.97 each
Asparagus $1.77/lb
mushrooms $1.97/lb (packaged)
NN ice cream $3.98 4L pail
mustard $.88/400 mL squeeze bottle
Black Diamond processed cheese slices (if you eat this stuff) $3.97/500g package
My mistake. If you want the above cheese slices, Sobey's price is only $2.99
Exact tampons, or pads 3/$5.00 Works out to $1.67 each. That's less than their best sale price of $1.99/box
Degree, Right Guard or Secret Deodorant and Antiperspirant 2/$4.00
Old Spice or Gillette body wash $3.99

5Alive or fruitopia cans $3.44/case of 12
5 Alive or fruitopia juice boxes $1.99/pack of 10
cottonelle (the sooo soft stuff for the grown-ups) $5.49/12 double rolls

JoAnn's Grocery Picks for the Week

No Frills prices start on Friday and go till Thursday
Purex toilet paper 15 double rolls $5.97 That's less than $.40/roll
Michelina's frozen entrees - $.99 (If you buy these for lunches or work)
mustard 400 mL - $.97
colored peppers $1.99/lb
large 10" soft tortilla wraps $1.99 (This particular brand is usually over $3.00)

Sobey's prices start on Friday and go till Thursday
Dollar days
romaine lettuce $1
tomatoes on the vine $1
French bread $1
Smarties or Aero Ice cream 400 mL tub $1
celery $1
mushrooms 200g/ $1 each
pork picnic shoulder roast $1/lb This depends on how much trimming is left on the roast. Often, the whole rind and the bottom of the leg (called the hock) is also left on. This is complete waste and you end up paying for weight that you don't use. I haven't seen it, so I don't know. But in any event, it will be large and you may want to ask the butcher to cut it in half for you.
chicken legs - back attached fresh $1.49/lb
baby cut carrots $1/a lb bag
oranges 3/$1 not too bad
cukes $1 each

Walmart
Still has milk, eggs and butter. This means that Superstore will match and NoFrills will also because they compete with SuperWalmart in Sylvan

Superstore Free item this week 8pk frozen burgers (Thick and Juicy varieties) abd a bag of buns if you spend a minimum of $150
strawberries (Saturday and Sunday only) this is a continuation of this past week's price
cukes - 3pk $2.28 ($.76 each)
PC 2L pop $.79
red potatoes 20lbs $4.88. This looks like an awesome price, but be aware that these are No. 2 grade, which means that they may be small, have defects or be otherwise below prime. Be choosy
grape tomatoes $1.98 each
baby carrots 2lb bag $1.88
Here's a few NN features. Some I am not sure of because I don't use them, but if I think they seem decent, I'll list them.
pancake mix $1.68 (950 g box)
pancake syrup $1.68 750mL
canned fruit $.98 (398mL can)
pot pies 5/$3.90 or $.75 each
fish sticks 700 g $3.98
hash browns $1.18/1kg bag

Co-op
Ice cream 4L pail $3.99 I suspect Superstore will match this if you are already there and don't want to go everywhere.

That's it. Nothing much exciting. But, again, if anyone is going out to NoFrills, be sure to post it on the blog as a comment so that someone can carpool with you.
